Coconut Oil has been used in skin care for probably as long as there have been coconuts. Over the last few months there has been quite a buzz regarding coconut oil in social media, I do not know how this “trend” started but as I said, it is not something “new”.
A few weeks ago, while grocery shopping, I saw a jar of coconut oil just in front of me at eye level. So, I decided to finally give it a go.
If you are going to use coconut oil in skin care you need to make sure it is:
- organic (ekologisk in Swedish)
- coldpressed (kallpressad in Swedish)
- virgin oil
Coconut oil has many uses and many benefits.
Amongst other things it is: antibacterial, antifungal, antiageing, moisturizing.
It solidifies at about 24 degrees celcius (76 degrees Farenheit). If you live in a warm climate you can use an eye dropper to pick up product. If the oil is solid (like for me) you can use a q-tip. Never dip your fingers in to the oil since you don’t want to contaminate it. A jar will probably last you a very long time so you don’t want any germs in the jar.
It starts melting as soon as it comes in contact with your body temperature.
I use it as:
- face moisturizer, both morning and evening.
- eye cream, both morning and evening.
- hair treatment, a few times per week instead of conditioner.
Now that I’ve used it for a few weeks I can truly and honestly say that it has turned my skin around completely. My face is no longer dry towards the end of the day, my crepey eyelids are pretty much gone (they are now smooth and supple), my undereye bags are smaller and the darkness under the eyes is almost gone.
I have not been this happy with my 45 year old skin for many many many years.
Below is a picture I posted on Instagram two weeks ago.
It works great under both face and eye makeup. You will need to let it sink in for a few minutes before applying other products though but it is so worth the wait. The skin looks healthy and glowy and it makes the makeup apply so much smoother.
Have you tried this? What are your thoughts about natural skin care?
