I thought it would be interesting to compare some concealer swatches!
The Tarte Shape Tape concealer has excellent coverage but the shade I got was a bit too light for me so I bought a darker shade.
The three concealers I swatch and compare here are:
- Tarte Shape Tape Contour Concealer in the shade fair-neutral
- Tarte Shape Tape Contour Concealer in the shade light-medium-honey
- bareMinerals bareSkin Complete Coverage Serum Concealer in the shade light
The Tarte Shape Tape in light-medium-honey is a perfect match for me when it comes to covering up my problematic under eyes, it harmonises perfectly with my undertones, it also has a slight “salmony” tinge to it which makes it perfect to correct and conceal my dark under eye circles!
Interesting to note here is that the bareSkin concealer is considerably more yellow toned and a bit darker, even in the shade “light”, than the two Shape Tape shades I have. The bareSkin one also oxidised slightly while I tried to take a sharp swatch photo, whereas the Tarte concealers did not!
The bareSkin concealer needs setting with a powder to last, this is unfortunate since I can’t use a powder under my eyes (it makes me look like a shriveled up mummy). The Tarte concealer does not need a setting powder in my opinion, it is a bit thicker and dryer. I apply Shape Tape with a damp beauty blender for the most natural result on my dry skin. Less is truly more with the Tarte concealer! Build up carefully!
The trend that has been going on for the past year or so, to apply tons of a light concealer under the eyes, does not really work for my dry mature skin. I have not only got dark circles, I also have bags. A concealer that is too light only exaggerate the bags rather than hiding them. I will be using my lightest shape tape concealer to contour with, rather than to conceal with, for that reason. It is – unfortunately – impossible to blindly follow makeup trends when you have mature skin.
Have you tried any of these concealers? What are your thoughts? Tell me your shade!
